Signing off ...

Hi everyone!

Well, it's now been one year since my good friend, Auckland SPCA Inspector Todd found me trapped under that house and very close to death.

As you can see, I've recovered quite well and have regained my outstanding good looks.

I'm living in my new home with my wonderful family and haven't looked back. Life just doesn't get any better than this.

Without all your help, I would not have survived because the Auckland SPCA doesn't get any regular government funding and relies almost totally on the generousity of the New Zealand public. So it's thanks to you guys and gals, plus my wonderful friends at the SPCA (staff and volunteers!) who helped me through.

Now because it's my anniversary, I figured that's probably a good time to close my blog. I'll leave it here for everyone to see, but I probably won't update it too much more. My SPCA friends have lots and lots of other animals to save, so I can't expect them to keep helping me with MY blog.

You were all there for me when it counted and I'll never forget!

But I have to go now, because it's time for a game with my best friend, Merry :)

Lotsa luvs from your friend,
Eve

Just before Christmas

Hello, Eve here. You haven't heard from me for awhile... I've been so busy just being a normal dog in my new home with my new family.

I'm having so much fun. The children just love me to bits and we have lots of fun games, smooches and cuddles. I am the boss of my new sister, Merry. I have to teach her just how I like to play. We race around the garden playing who's the fastest, tug of war, and give me that stick.

One of our favourite games is to dig a hole (much to Dad's annoyance) and take turns dumping each other in the hole and have a play fight. If it's wet and muddy, that is even better. I have dibs on the bamboo patch. It's got creatures inside it and I'm gonna catch them. I've made some tunnels through the bamboo and just you wait, you mice!
My Mum has been taking me for walks and I am allowed to walk off the lead because I behave. Merry has to stay on the lead... hehehe.

This time last year I was locked in that dark horrible place, starving and left to die by my previous owner.

What a difference this Christmas. My new family love me very much and look after me very well. I have lots of food (well I'd like more, but Mum said I have to have the right amount for a dog of my size. But we are allowed some Xmas dinner, yum yum). I have my own space with a cosy bed and there is always someone to play with me or to have a cuddle with. The kids told me that dogs in this family get a present from Santa. I hope its food treats or some new toys - we've kinda destroyed most of ours. Well, I'd better go and check that Merry isn't near my Bamboo Patch. I'll chase her if she is.

Merry Christmas to all my friends, love from the cutest dog in the world.

Hi, Eve's Mum here.

I thought I'd fill you all in on Eve's progress in her new home. She has settled in very well and is a very much-loved member of our family. I must say what a character Eve is. She has very funny and cute ways about her.

She is very much the boss of Merry and keeps her in line. Merry thinks Eve is just wonderful and she follows her around copying her every move. They have great fun in the back yard. I have never seen so many chewed up sticks ever. They have stashes everywhere. Tug of war is one their favourite games. One gets a rope or chewed up soccer ball and starts growling, the other latches on and also starts growling. They will tug and shake the object for ages or until Eve decides Merry is being too big for her boots and snaps at her. Merry lets go and Eve wins. One of the cutest things is when Eve goes to sleep. She makes a nest out of her bed and often buries her head under her snuggle blanket and then snores. Sometimes they sleep together - in Merry's bed of course, Merry is not allowed in Eve's bed!

Eve is well behaved and has settled into the house routine. She sure knows when its food time, I find her sitting patiently in the kitchen licking her chops, waiting for her tucker.

This month, I can't help but reflect on how Eve's life was at this time last year. She was starving to death in the most appalling conditions. How on earth can anyone be so cruel and irresponsible? A heartfelt thanks to the wonderful SPCA (especially Eve's rescuer, Inspector Todd Neal) who managed to find Eve in time and nurse her back to health.

She surely is a survivor and one very lucky dog. I would like to thank the SPCA for allowing our family the privilege of adopting Eve. We will always make sure that she has a happy life and will never be mistreated again.

My big announcement!

Hi Guys

I hope you're all happy & healthy just like me. I'm soooo sorry I haven't been in touch but I had a bit of a holiday recently. I told you all in my last update that I had some really exciting news but I guess you probably know about it already cause it was on the TV One news and in the paper - I'VE BEEN ADOPTED!!!!!!!!! YA HOO, YIPPEE, YEHAAA!

Oops, sorry, I just get so excited and have to pinch myself every time I think about it.

I live with the best family ever. They have four cool kids that play with me all the time and a new Dad (he's a real soft touch & spoils me) and a new Mum who is really the boss of everyone including me. I tried to sort her out at the start, but she wasn't having any of that, so I have to be really well behaved just like the kids & Dad, but I love them all sooooo much.

I also have the best-ever doggy-sister called "Merry" who I love to bits, but I don't ever let her know because she might think she can take advantage. She goes and finds sticks and toys and then I take them off her and keep them. How cool is that game???!!!

I have a huge back yard with bush and trees; there's a lot of shade and a special kennel that I can go and sleep in when I'm tired, and I have a big bed inside where I sleep in at night.

The kids play sport so mum takes me to watch them play soccer, so I'm always really good in the car and I sit nicely next to mum and lots of people come up saying how pretty I am and pat me (I am very pretty if I say so myself). It's great and I can't believe how lucky I am.

When I go to bed at night, I sleep like a baby puppy and dream about nice food, toys, sticks, a warm soft bed, trips in the car and I've stopped having nightmares about that horrible shed I was locked in for all those weeks and the loneliness. I thought I was going to die and I nearly did. Thank goodness for the SPCA and wonderful people like you, who helped look after me with all your donations and presents.

My new family went away for the weekend a couple of weeks ago and Merry & I had to go to stay at a Pet Hotel. It was very flash but I did miss them all and they were so pleased to see me when they came back.

My best friend, Merry

I don't ever want to be alone again or not be with my family. Mum said she will take photos and write little stories to send to Uncle D at the SPCA and he will put them on my blog, so you can all keep in touch with me.

I don't know how to start thanking you all for caring so much about me. If it hadn't been for Inspector Todd, the SPCA Staff, Volunteers and all you guys, I would never have made it and never have been the well behaved, friendly dog I am today. Your love, support and generosity are impossible to measure and I can't find enough words to thank you all... so I'll keep it simple: I love you all, and thank you for giving me my life back.

"You all make a difference, so never stop believing in what you do because we will never stop believing in you..."

Love

Exciting news coming!

Hi Everyone

Sorry, it's been ages since I last caught up but I have been so busy you just wouldn't believe it.

Lots of things have been happening in my world but I have been sworn to secrecy so I can't tell you (I'm really busting to!), but Uncle Bob & Inspector Todd said that I can tell you next week, so keep checking the website to find out my exciting news.

I've also lost a bit of weight & I look a million dollars so I'll organise some new pics next week as well - it can be difficult sometimes to find a quality photographer who can get my perfect profile but I'll do my best.

Can't wait until next week!. Talk later...

Love you all heaps

Christmas 'Eve' and 'Merry' Christmas ...

It's nearly a week since my last catch up, doesn't time fly by when your social calendar is booked up? As I told you last week I have been in touch with my potential new family and my new maybe mum came out to see me again today with their little dog whose name is "Merry". Isn't that just too much of a coincidence that she's called "Merry" because she originally came in to the SPCA around Christmas time & I'm called Eve because I came into the SPCA on Christmas Eve, isn't that spooky?

Anyway Merry & I met up again today & we had so much fun (or at least I did) we had a run around together off lead & although she is so much better behaved that she used to be I did have to tell her off once when she just got a bit too big for her boots. Once that was sorted though we got along like a house on fire.

I'm hoping that next week I might get to go & visit their house & give it the once over, you know check out the accommodation, make sure the colour scheme in my kennel is up to speed, although the couch is more my style but I might have to introduce that idea slowly!!

I've got a really good feeling about this family & I'm pretty well decided they are the ones for me plus my new mum thinks I'm lovely so it goes to show she's really on to it. Will let you know how it all goes next week & then when I do go home I hear Uncle Bob might be getting it on TV so that would be really cool.

Talk soon!

The hunt for a home continues...

Hi everyone, how are you all going?

Things have been really busy lately as I'm in the process of checking out my potential new owners. As you all know from my blog I legally became free after the great result from my court case. I was hoping to appear but wasn't needed in the end which was really disappointing as I had a new collar & coat I was keeping for special occasions.

Anyway I have met a lovely family who wrote to me last year when I first came to the SPCA; it was really nice that so many of you wrote me letters, sent cards & helped me to get better. I can't thank you enough for helping me out when I was so sick. Special thanks to all those wonderful people who offered to adopt me but unfortunately I have a mortal enemy called "cats" which a lot of you already have so it just couldn't work out having me move in. Sorry, I'm getting off track a bit but one family have kept in touch and we were introduced about three or four weeks ago and we hit it off right away. They tell me they have a lovely big back yard with lots of trees and go walking every day so it sounds perfect.

One of the things I had to consider is that they have another dog which is a girl & as hard as it is to believe she is the spitting image of me. I know your thinking that can't be possible as how could there be another dog as pretty and captivating as me but she looks just like me but smaller(and perhaps not quite as pretty as me) but ok. Unfortunately she isn't quite as well behaved as me either so I had to explain in doggy language that rushing into my personal space and barking in a very loud voice was just not the done thing. I advised her owners that perhaps a week or two of training would make the world of difference and they could bring her back to try again over the next week or two. I am more than willing to help sort it out and on the next visit things were much improved and yesterday we were both off lead and after a few subtle corrections given by yours truly she was starting to really get the hang of things. I almost gave in and thought about starting a play game but then thought no!! I can't afford to let her get away with anything just yet but she really is quite appealing so next week we will try again and I just might let her know I'm really quite a softy. If everything works out ok I will go for a drive after that and visit their house, meet the kids and check out the accommodation.

Don't worry I'll keep you all informed as to how its going and the papers and TV might be interested as I am quite a celebrity so hopefully you'll get to see me get adopted and go to my new home. I can't wait, it's all getting so exciting and although I have really enjoyed my stay at the SPCA and I love all the staff to bits, I will be pleased to just be a normal dog again.

I'll keep you posted.

Take care, luv you all

Eve
